PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Copper sulphate crystals - blue vitriol - is the oldest and still the most widely used algaestat and fungicide in India. In water it releases copper ions that stop algae reproducing, which makes it the standard treatment for green, mustard and black algae in swimming pools, ornamental ponds, fountains, overhead tanks and sewage and drainage systems. In agriculture it is the copper half of Bordeaux mixture, used against fungal blight, downy mildew and leaf spot.
For pool and pond use the published rate is about 60 g of copper sulphate per 50,000 litres of water - roughly 12 g per 10,000 litres. A 900 g pack therefore carries about fifteen doses for a 50,000-litre pool. For crop spraying, the traditional mix is three tablespoons of copper sulphate and three tablespoons of hydrated lime in 3 litres of water, stirred until fully dissolved and applied with a pump-up sprayer, repeated every fortnight while infection persists.
Supplied as technical-grade crystals. It is an effective alternative where chlorine and bromine are unsuitable - fish-free ornamental water, fountains, and standing water that cannot be dosed daily. Store closed, dry and out of sunlight; copper sulphate is hygroscopic and will cake if left open.

HOW TO USE
- Handle it as a chemical — Wear gloves and eye protection. Add the product to water, never water to the product. Store the pack closed, upright, out of sun and away from other pool chemicals.
- For a pool or pond, work out the volume — Length (m) × width (m) × average depth (m) × 1,000 = litres. Dose about 60 g per 50,000 litres, or about 12 g per 10,000 litres.
- Dissolve before dosing — Dissolve the weighed crystals fully in a bucket of warm water. Undissolved crystals sitting on a pool or pond floor will stain it blue-green.
- Distribute evenly — Pour the solution around the perimeter with the circulation running, or broadcast it across a pond from several points.
- For crops, mix with hydrated lime — Three tablespoons of copper sulphate plus three tablespoons of hydrated lime in 3 litres of water. Stir until clear, spray over affected crops, repeat every fortnight while infection persists.
